Modern Foreign Languages
The Lime MFL Curriculum is school specific. As a Trust, we recognise the importance of learning a foreign language and how it provides an opening to other cultures. From Year 3 onwards, as a School, pupils study French/Spanish. Kapow is used to deliver MFL lessons of the highest quality, providing step by step instructional videos to support the delivery and enhance the skills of the learners. Pupils are introduced to new vocabulary and expressions through a series of fun games, songs and stories. Within the Trust, MFL is taught practically, engaging pupils via skills-based learning. The teaching of MFL enables pupils to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and to understand and respond to its speakers, both in speech and in writing. Language teaching provides the foundation for learning further languages. As a school, we have a high number of pupils who are bi-lingual, giving them a positive platform for learning further languages, therefore equipping them to study and work in other countries.
The MFL scheme of work is designed with six strands that run throughout. These are:
- Speaking and pronunciation
- Listening
- Reading and writing
- Grammar
- Intercultural understanding
