If your child is attending school full-time they will be staying for lunch-time. Please ensure you make arrangements for their lunches.
Paid school meals
School dinners are prepared and cooked in the kitchen at Lime Academy Abbotsmede, have been developed in consultation with the children and follow a regular pattern through the week. Menus are available on the website or in the school office. Dinners are served on a cafeteria basis whereby children choose their meal and sit with friends. Children are encouraged to choose their own meal and perhaps try a wider range of healthy foods. At Lime Academy Abbotsmede, we collect dinner money using Arbor. If you do not already have an Arbor account, please visit the school office who will be able to help you set one up.
Your child's Arbor account must be in credit for your child to receive a school meal and we would suggest paying at least one week in advance to keep the account in credit. If your child’s account falls to zero (£0.00) you will receive a text alerting you of this. You will need to top up the account so that your child can continue to receive a school dinner. School dinners cost £2.20 per day or £11 per week. For help with topping up your child's account, please use this help guide.
Free school meals
If you are in receipt of Income Support or Jobseeker’s Allowance you may be entitled to apply for Free School Meals for your child. Cambridgeshire County Council, Education Welfare Benefits Service is the Free School Meal (FSM) entitlement provider for our school.
If you would like to apply for your child, making an application is quick and simple to do using this online application form, selecting “no” when asked if you have had a previous claim.
Alternatively you can collect a paper application form from the school office. Once completed, these can be returned to the school office for checking.
Please note that we are unable to provide your child with a free school meal until we have received written confirmation from the Local Authority.
In 2013 the Government introduced the universal infant free school meals (UIFSM) grant, which enables schools to provide free school meals to all pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.
Alternatively, children may bring a packed lunch. Please make sure that the lunch box is clearly marked with your child’s name and that it is secure, especially the drink container (no glass containers). Please make sure your child's packed lunch is a healthy meal, with no fizzy drinks and we ask you to avoid crisps and chocolate. Do not pack any nut products as we are a Nut Free School.
Snacks and Milk
Children may bring a healthy snack to be eaten at break time. Fruit is provided daily in KS1. The school is part of the Cool Milk for Schools scheme and all children receive free milk until the child's 5th birthday.
We all want to help our children stay healthy and happy as they grow up. Here at Lime Academy Abbotsmede we want to help children lead a healthy lifestyle by offering healthy food choices at lunchtime. You can find out much more about healthy eating at the Children’s Food Trust website.
